How to Book an Appointment at the Nicaraguan Consulate Online

Since April 2025, Nicaragua's Foreign Ministry has centralized appointment requests through a single online portal for consular, immigration and apostille procedures. There is no longer any need to call by phone or show up without a turn: you choose the office, fill in your details and receive a confirmation by email. In this guide we walk you through the official channels, the step-by-step process on the portal, which U.S. offices you can schedule at and what to bring on the day of your appointment.

Official channels to book an appointment

There are two official ways to manage your Nicaraguan consular appointment. The main one is the online portal; the phone line is mainly for questions and information:

  • 🌐 Appointment portal: citas.cancilleria.gob.ni
  • 📞 Information line (Nicaragua): 2244-8008

The portal is the only way to reserve a slot. The 2244-8008 line is for guidance and information about procedures, not for booking directly.

Step by step on the appointment portal

Reserving your slot at citas.cancilleria.gob.ni is simple. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the official portal citas.cancilleria.gob.ni from your computer or phone.
  2. Choose the consular office where you want to be served (Washington D.C., Miami or New York).
  3. Select the procedure: consular, immigration or apostille, depending on what you need.
  4. Enter your identity details: ID card or passport number and your email address.
  5. Confirm with the verification code you will receive to validate your request.
  6. Save the appointment confirmation that arrives by email with the date, time and office.

Type your email address carefully: both the verification code and the confirmation with your slot are sent to that address.

Which offices you can schedule at

Only three Nicaraguan consular offices operate in the United States. The portal's appointments correspond exclusively to these locations:

  • 📍 Washington D.C. — see consulate
  • 📍 Miami (Florida) — see consulate
  • 📍 New York — see consulate

If you live far from these cities, remember that many procedures can be started or completed online without traveling. Before planning a long trip, check on the portal whether your matter can be handled digitally.

On the day of your appointment: what to bring

To keep your visit quick, arrive early and bring the essentials with you:

  • 🧾 The appointment confirmation you received by email (printed or on your phone).
  • 🪪 Your identity document: Nicaraguan ID card or passport.
  • 📄 The documents for the procedure you are completing (originals and copies if requested).
  • 💵 An accepted method of payment for the cost of the procedure.

Arrive a few minutes before the scheduled time. If you can't make it, cancel or reschedule your slot on the portal so you don't lose it and you free up the spot for someone else.

Beware of agent scams

There are people and websites that pose as middlemen and charge to "get appointments faster." The appointment on the official portal is free and anyone can request it on their own.

  • ✅ Use only the official domain citas.cancilleria.gob.ni; be wary of look-alike links.
  • 🚫 Don't pay third parties who promise "guaranteed" or instant slots.
  • 🔒 Never share your verification code or your details with strangers.

If you have any doubts, confirm the information through the official line 2244-8008 or directly with the consular office you chose.
